Hey guys, sorry i haven't been on in AAGES!

anyways, i played the mirrors edge demo today as it came out on xbox live market place... i must say, it is very graphically pleasing. Unlike other games which focus on detail of every sing thing, Mirrors edge brings out the simplistic coloring into a rendered object. Just imagine a rendered model and just colored... no minute details.

the game play is top notch, i had quite alot of fun replaying is over and over again to try and find new ways to go across platforms, however, i found the controls to be a bit bizarre...

Left trigger is to slide/crouch while left bumper is to jump/hop over thing.
Right Trigger is to open doors/combat and Y is to disarm an enemy

as movement is the main part of the game, the mirrors edge team should have made the Triggers jump and slide since those are the easiest buttons to press while playing. The bumpers should have been used to open doors and to fight as they are less used than the movement in the game play.

i would really love to play the full version of it when it comes out, i feel that this is a game that stands out from all the rest. Most games in this age force you to be in combat more than move around... this however is the total opposite.

Mirrors edge Demo:

Graphics 9/10
Gameplay 8/10
Mechanics 8.5/10
Story (unable since its a demo)

So far my rating stands as an 8.5/10 overall and is a demo worth looking into

Story

Taking place after the events of Abe's Exoddus, the story begins with a froglike Gabbit named Munch, searching for others of his kind. Munch continually uses a form of echolocation to call for fellow Gabbits, reminiscing about friendlier times before many of his friends were commercially fished to near-extinction in large nets. Unfortunately, owing to the delicacy of Gabbit eggs, known as "Gabbiar" (a parody of caviar) and the suitability of Gabbit lungs to replace those of the chain-smoking, dominant-species Glukkons, he is the last of his kind. While looking on a lonely shore, he is caught by an animal trap and taken by two Vykkers to their massive hovering base of operations, Vykkers Labs. There, they disagree on whether to sell Munch's lungs or to use him as an aquatic slave to gather trapped animals for them. They choose the latter, implanting a sparking sonar device in Munch's head. The plan backfires: when the two Vykkers leave, Munch discovers he can use the electrical properties of his new implant to free the furry-but-vicious lab specimens called Fuzzles, and enlist them into attacking the Vykkers and their cohorts. With his new army of Fuzzles, Munch manages to escape the dreaded facility.

Meanwhile, the Almighty Raisin tells the Mudokon hero Abe of Munch's plight, and commands him to find and rescue the Gabbit. The two manage to find each other just as Munch is escaping Vykkers Labs. After they destroy two Sloghuts (areas where Mudokons are forced to tend and feed Slog guard dogs) and help natives fend off Slig attacks, they find their way back to the Almighty Raisin. He tells them to go back to Vykkers Labs (particularly appalling for Munch) to save their respective species. The last can of Gabbit eggs is being auctioned in a few days as the last delicacy of its kind, and there are large stockpiles of Mudokon eggs in the fortress, intended to be used to hatch slaves.

Gameplay

Unlike the previous two games, Munch's Oddysee was the first game in the Oddworld series to be in 3D, unlike the 2D Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus. Just like the other two games, the GameSpeak function can be used to communicate with Mudokons and Fuzzles in the game and is the only way to lead them into the rescue portals. A new feature introduced to the series is the ability to use GameSpeak to force friendly NPC's to attack enemies. The GameSpeak was also modified to fit the Xbox controller (see below). However, there is no GameSpeak function for the enemies you can possess, such as Sligs, which now say random sayings, like "Poo Brain" and "You stink" (and if the enemies insult each other enough, they eventually start fighting). This differs from the previous games, where possessed enemies had their own GameSpeak commands.

Abe's chant possession ability was also changed. In Munch's Oddysee it appears as a small ball of energy which the player controls. In order to possess an enemy, you need spooceshrubs, which are green and ball-shaped. They can also be used for opening some locked doors. Other new features include Abe's ability to pick up objects and people, and different vending machine power-ups, such as Expresso, which increases speed for a limited time.

The most significant new feature is the ability to switch between Abe and Munch. Munch has his own abilities, such as using his sonar to control the Snoozers from the control panel, as well as pick up grabbers. He can also swim in water, while Abe can not. In the Munch's Oddysee booklet, it warns that Abe can only possess Industrialists, but in gameplay, you can possess all the same creatures as you could in Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, and for the first time, you can possess Slogs, though the options for controlling non-Industrialists are very limited. There isn't a proper use for possessing non-Industrial creatures apart from using them to fight each other; however, the possessed creatures are usually the ones killed.
For those of you who don't know (which better be none of you) SPORE is a game that allows you to create your own creature and see how it survives and evolves, it's kind of like a sandbox game with 4 mini-games and a final space stage.

Cell Stage
I opened Spore excited to what I would be playing, I started a new game on a nice earth-like planet called Keithzus I was this little tadpole like thing with two eyes and a tail, I swam around enjoying tasty snacks and getting bigger and enjoying tastier snacks, I think decided it was time to handle business and add a few new parts to my baby. I had unlocked a spike and a weird zoidberg looking mouth that allowed me to be a herbivore, I kept my old mouth so I could be both and sort of slurp them in while biting them. Which didn't really work I just ended up as an Omnivore. I found that I kept dying with this set up and eventually found my way to adding electro-shock on my ass and getting rid of the herbivore mouth in favour for some spikes. This worked rather well and I didn't die once with this set-up it was now time for me to grow legs...

Summary: Well balanced and a nice mix of strategy with the creature creator.

Creature Stage

The Creature Stage for me was the ultimate stage for designing my creature I spent hours in the creature creator not caring about the stats on the parts and just going for what looked good. It ended up changing a lot with the parts I unlocked but it was always a dragon/scorpion type creature. The gameplay with this stage quite frankly sucked. I created my creature and basically pressed buttons and relied on stats, as to weather I made allies or killed the creature. Which is all you do throughout the stage which gets very repetitive and boring.

Tribal Stage

Tribal Stage is basically a basic RTS it was kinda fun but very easy and like the Creature Stage was quite repetitive and got boring.... Not much else to say. You take on the other tribes, outfit your creatures and sometimes stop creatures from stealing your food.

Civilization Stage

The Civilization Stage was my favourite stage up until Space Age it'is like a more advance but still fairly basic RTS, you get resources and your able to build buildings, cars, boats and planes. And like the Creature Creator you can design your own boats, planes, building etc. The stage is fairly easy but pretty entertaining.

Space Age

Ah, Space Age the longest and most fun of all the stages. The stage has so much to offer it's hard for me to cover it all. I enjoyed this stage a lot, the galaxy is huge and you get little missions to do from your colonies and allies which earn you "Spore Bucks". Which is the game currency to buy Weapons, Space Turrets, Bombs, and all sorts of awesome things to add to your ship. There is also another currency type of thing called Spice which you can collect from your colonies and buy off your allies and sell them to whoever you like to make Spore Bucks.

When I first started Space Age I quickly looked at all my tools and weapons, just as I thought there was a laser and abduction ray for me to wreck havoc with, un-like all the other stages I found it vital to make allies in this stage as otherwise I would of got owned, I placed colonies on 2 nearby planets to my home planet and then improved their TeraScore which is like how inhabitable your planet is by using my currently limited tools and abducting plants and animals. I was having so much fun playing with my planets and exploring the galaxy and then...

War had begun... I had stepped into "Spode" territory and they demanded I paid them a handsome sum of 100,000 Spore Bucks or they would obliterate me, I obviously said fuck off and they decided to begin war, so I made a few allies and got them to attack The Gooplet Empire and eventually I destroyed them all. TO BE CONTINUED...AGAIN

Well this has kind of ended up like a review, I will finish it up and add pictures from my game soon.

As you might have noticed (or not) the forums is quite cleaned up.
For you who do not know why; Jake007 and Spykodemon "conspired" against the Forum and deleted all threads and posted "racist" things from 4chan.

We took it as a fresh start instead, with a cleaned up forum we hope to get better threads (*cough* No more Xbox threads *cough*) and less wannabe's like Jake and Spykodemon.

Feel free to rant on the twats here.

Also: Post your Server, Race and Name here if you ever feel like playing with me.
